Unique Student Identifier (USI)
Getting your USI
Anyone doing Nationally Recognised Training (Certificate courses or Statement of Attainments) on or after the 1st of January 2015 must get a USI before they can be issued their qualification.
What is a USI?
The Unique Student Identifier or USI is a reference number made up of 10 numbers and letters that:
Who needs a USI and why?
If you are a new or continuing student undertaking nationally recognised training and course you need a USI in order to receive your qualification or statement of attainment. If you don't have a USI you will not receive your qualification or statement of attainment.
Your USI will give you access to an online record of the training you have done since 1 January 2015. You will also be able to produce a comprehensive transcript of your training. This can be used when applying for a job, seeking a credit transfer or demonstrating pre-requisites when undertaking further training.
If you are an international student studying offshore and do not have an Australian passport, Australian entry visa or other Australian proof of ID required to create a USI, you do not need a USI.
If you are a New Zealand citizen you cannot apply for a USI while overseas. You will require a USI if you undertake a VET course in Australia, and you will be able to apply for a USI once you have entered Australia on your NZ passport.
However, if you are an Australian expat or resident and have an Australian ID, you need a USI even if you do the VET course while outside Australia.

Once you have created your USI you will also need to enter the USI website with the username and Password you created in the process and give Aegis Training Services Permission to view your USI, our national code is 30873, entering this code will make it easier for you to find us. After you have given us permision you will then need to go back into your enrolment page (from the link in your enrolment welcome email) and enter and verify your USI. Please ensure the details on both the USI site and the Enrolmnet page are EXACTLY the same or it will not verify. After this is done you will be able to recieve your qualification/Statement once you complete your course.
This is now just one part of the reporting processes that RTO's (Registered Training Organisations) must adhere to. At the completion of the course you will also be asked to complete a student survey and submit it for reporting as well.
