Truck License Classes

Here at Aegis training we offer courses in the most popular license classes:

Medium Rigid (MR)(Not currently available in Brisbane area)(Try Major)

MR (Medium Rigid) is generally the first level of licence required by those who are entering the professional driver area, or for those who need to get a licence for vehicles such as Busses, local delivery vehicles, large campervans or personal vehicles. Learning to drive an MR is a great first step into a career in professional driving.

For those seeking work in the transport area the government through the Productivity Placements Program (PPP) can assist with funding for the Certificate III in Transport & Logistics (Road Transport) (conditions apply), so contact our office for information, we can help you as we are an approved provider of this course, so you could not only walk away with the licence but also a nationally recognised qualification that is valued by employers in the industry.

MR is classed as a Vehicle over 8 ton GVM with only 2 axles so it is the licence needed to drive most busses, but not coaches, and a large percentage of local delivery vehicles. MR is generally a synchromesh gearbox very similar to the gearbox found in manual cars, so learning to drive an MR is relatively simple compared to the more complicated non - synchromesh (crash) box found in larger vehicles (HR up), you just need to get used to the size and some of the specific requirements needed for heavy vehicles. What a great way to get started.

Heavy Rigid (HR) (Not currently available in Brisbane area)(Try Major)

HR (Heavy Rigid) is classed as more than 8 ton GVM with no axle limit (generally 3) also a trailer of up to 9 ton GVM can be used. These vehicles are generally used in all areas of transport and are common in earth moving general freight and coach driving. HR is generally a non - synchromesh gearbox (Crash) but more and more Synchromesh boxes and even automatic are coming onto the market. We strongly recommend that even though you can get a Synchromesh licence (Restricted)  you should consider getting an unrestricted licence so you can drive any vehicle (this will then not require you to do the HC or MC in a crash box) as you only need to show competence in a crash box once. To have the B restriction on your licence would be similar to having an auto car licence with similar restrictions, but possibly worse as most HR's used in industry are still a crash box.

Heavy Combination (HC)(Not currently available in the Brisbane area)(Try Major)

HC (Heavy Combination) is classed as a Prime mover plus Trailer or a HR class with a trailer over 9 ton GVM. HC is the first of the articulated vehicles. These vehicles are generally used in all areas of transport and are common in the interstate transport of goods. HC is generally a non - synchromesh gearbox (Crash) but more and more Synchromesh boxes and even automatic are coming onto the market.
