Become a Driving Instructor

Certificate IV in Driver Instruction is a minimum requirement that must be completed to become an Instructor/Trainer in Australia. We are proud to be able to deliver these courses to our customers.

There are three separate streams for driving instruction Car, Heavy Vehicle and Motorcycle, More information regarding each steam is listed below.

The Approved Driving Instructors Course is available at Aegis Training Services P/L. The Driving Instruction course is a 2 week course and can be combined with the TAA qualification as well if you wish. The advantage of the new Driver Instructors course is it is consistent in all Australian States and Territories and therefore will be immediately recognised by all licensing authorities.

The new Driver Instruction course is set out with 11 core units (which is the full qualification) and in addition to this there is 2 optional assessment units from the TAA qualification for those wishing to work in states with assessment completed by the Trainer, for example in Queensland the Q-RIDE motorcycle system, South Australia Licensing system and NSW heavy Vehicle system. Aegis Training Services P/L also provides the TAA qualification so we can offer the option of completing these units at the same time as completing the TLI41207 qualification.

The course is made up of a group of Units and is designed to be able to completed in the sections you require for the class of vehicle training desired. TLI41207 Certificate IV in Transport & Logistics (Road Transport - Car Driving Instruction)

The following Information is taken from the Training Package.

A qualification for the Transport and Logistics Industry. This qualification has been structured to align with applicable car driving licensing and regulatory requirements for each state or territory. Successful completion will require competency in units that relate to work defined as aligned at AQF Level 4.

Performance of a broad range of skilled applications including requirements to evaluate and
analyse current practices, develop new criteria and procedures for performing current
practices, and provision of some leadership and guidance to others in the application and
planning of the skills.

Entry requirements:
1. Possess a current, full and unrestricted Australian Car Driver Licence.
2. Fulfill all of the relevant state or territory regulatory requirements.
3. The instructor’s language, literacy and numeracy skills are expected to be equivalent to level 3 of the National Reporting System, which identifies adult English language, literacy and numeracy language indicators of competence.

A successful assessment outcome for a total 11 core units, comprising:

TLI41309 Certificate IV in Transport & Logistics (Road Transport - Heavy Vehicle Driving Instruction)

The following Information is taken from the Training Package.

This qualification has been structured to align with applicable heavy vehicle driving licensing and regulatory requirements for each state or territory. Successful completion will require competency in units that relate to work defined as aligned at AQF Level 4.

Performance of a broad range of skilled applications including requirements to evaluate and analyse current practices, develop new criteria and procedures for performing current practices, and provision of some leadership and guidance to others in the application and planning of the skills.

Entry requirements:
1. Possess a current, full and unrestricted Australian Light Rigid Driver Licence/Endorsement (as a minimum). Learners (trainee instructors) must hold the licence/endorsement pertinent to the relevant vehicle category being: Light Rigid, Medium Rigid, Heavy Rigid, Heavy Combination or Multi-Combination.
2. Fulfill all of the relevant state or territory regulatory requirements.
3. The instructor’s language, literacy and numeracy skills are expected to be equivalent to level 3 of the National Reporting System, which identifies adult English language, literacy and numeracy language indicators of competence.

Successful completion will require competency in units that relate to work defined as aligned at AQF Level 4.

Performance of a broad range of skilled applications including requirements to evaluate and analyse current practices, develop new criteria and procedures for performing current practices, and provision of some leadership and guidance to others in the application and planning of the skills.

Entry requirements:

1. Possess a current, full and unrestricted Australian Motorcycle Rider Licence/Endorsement.
2. Fulfill all of the relevant state or territory regulatory requirements.
3. The instructor’s language, literacy and numeracy skills are expected to be equivalent to level 3 of the National Reporting System, which identifies adult English language, literacy and numeracy language indicators of competence.
