Added March 2011

The Transport and Logistics Industry Skills Council has released the new TLI10 Training Package. This includes upgrades to the current courses in Driving Instruction. Aegis Training Services has already taken steps to be approved to deliver the new courses and will be out shortly.

Many people are confused in relation to the need to upgrade their current trainer qualifications. Those that hold a current TAA40104 Certificavte IV in Training & Assessment do NOT need to upgrade to the new TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment.

Those that hold the older BSZ40198 Certificate IV in Workplace Traning & Assessment however will need to do the upgade prior to the end of the year.

Check out our sister site http://www.aegis.edu.au for special pricing on upgrades.

Before You Buy Your Car

Things to Think About

What car does Aegis recommend?

We have used many different cars over the years and are constantly looking at new cars as they are released. We suggest you seriously consider the following cars.

  1. Hyundai i30
  2. Hyundai i20 (slightly more expensive to fit the duel controls but a good car)
  3. Suzuki Swift
  4. Hyundai Accent (slightly more expensive to fit the duel controls but again a good car)

You will probably notice there are a few Hyundai's here and the reason for that is they are not only a very good car but one of the few that you get a 5 year UNLIMITED km's warranty, and this makes them a very attractive proposition for our industry.

Where do I go to get a good deal?

Aegis has been around and negotiating with dealers for their students, and if you call or drop in to Keema at Springwood (Hyundai or Suzuki) Phone 07 3884 8300, and ask for either Julie Macklin or Colin Mullen and let them know you are one of our students (will need to be verified) and you will be very well looked after.

Other things you will need to consider when looking at a car are.

  1. How reliable is the vehicle.
  2. What are the repair costs like.
  3. The insurance costs involved in the make and model chosen.
  4. Are parts readily available for the vehicle.
  5. What are the service costs involved..

What Warranty do you get with it?

This is something that we forget sometimes but we need to remember that a Driving School Car will do many more Kilometres than your average private vehicle. You really need to consider if you will have warranty for the life or at least most of the life of the vehicle. So you need to ensure you have either unlimited Kilometres or a very good limit. so don't just think of the years.

Can you see the speedo from the passenger side?

Some cars are very good reliable cars but are not practical for Driver training for some reason, and one of the most common is visibility of both the dash and around the vehicle.

Can you fit the controls?

Some cars the duel controls can not be fitted, so Check with Peter at Duel controls QLD to ensure they can BEFORE you buy the car. The Phone number is 07 3200 4707 Peter will help he is a great guy.

How much do I spend?

We suggest you try and keep it down as much as possible. All the extras might seem great at the time but you rarely get your money back at the end. Some are nice to have though so don't be uncomfortable in your car you will be spending a lot of time in there. We do suggest that in QLD you seriously consider window tinting, you are in there a lot and the effect of the sun can be damaging.

\It might also be handy to note that it is the changeover price you need to look at (if doing a trade in) not the sale price of the car, some dealers will quote you a great price but then give you nothing for your trade so you end up with a actual higher price out of your pocket, so check your final cost.
